Juan has been a Scout for 25 years, having lived through the various stages of Scout training as a boy, and afterwards, becoming a Scout group Leader, a position he held for over 10 years.
In his National Scout Association, ASDE Scouts of Spain, Juan took part in what is termed Team Growth for 3 years, and later he was elected International Commissioner. After that, he was elected once more as Treasurer and Head of Internal Management. In all his duties, he was very positively appraised, and he obtained excellent results and proven achievements. We feel this shows not only Juan´s capabilities, but also, above anything else, his skills and the capacity to apply them to the special nature and the diverse realities of the Scout organizations.

In relation to the FEE, Juan has served as Treasurer, Vice-Chairman and Chairman, contributing to unite the Federation and fostering a close and collaborative relationship between the NSAs that form part of it. For this reason, Juan´s candidature has not only the full support of his National Scout Association, but also the unanimous backing of the whole Federation of Scouting in Spain. The work that Juan has completed up until now is a demonstration of his sensitivity towards others, his openness and closeness to others and his huge capacity to take part in teamwork, either as coordinator or as a member of a team. He is known for his honesty and his innate capacity to bring together persons who think differently, in order to create a spirit of unity and teamwork.

In the European Scout Region, Juan has served for three years as Coordinator of the External Relations and Funding Core Group, one of the strategic areas of work in the Region. In this role, he has been responsible for the development of both the European Region´s Triennial Plans with regard to this area, and the coordination work with the volunteers. During this period of hard work, Juan has taken part in several events and training programmes, and he coordinated the first regional event for communication specialists from the various European NSOs. The huge success Juan has achieved through this experience shows the level of commitment he has, and his capacity to work in an international environment, satisfactorily coordinating teams of an intercultural nature.

Besides this experience in the Scout Region, Juan has taken part in events in all the other WOSM Regions. By doing so, he has learnt about the special nature and values of the Scout Movement, as well as its diverse peculiarities in different parts of the world. He also set up collaboration projects, lines of action for cooperation purposes, and bridges of dialogue between Scout organizations. This rich mixture of personal experience has enabled Juan to achieve a wide and objective vision regarding the very different realities that constitute WOSM, and they are a very solid foundation for Juan’s potential future service as member of the World Scout Committee.

Lastly, with regard to the global scope of our Scout Movement, Juan has taken part in the last two World Scout Jamborees: As a patrol leader in Sweden, and as Head of the Spanish Contingent in Japan. He was also Head of the Spanish Delegation at the World Scout Conference in Slovenia in 2014, and right now, he is one of the members of the Task Force that deals with “WOSM Voting Rights and Fees”.
